Charlie King is an MFA Candidate and the University of Houston. He studied previously at Sam Houston State University where he received his Bachelor of Fine Art in Photography, minoring in graphic design, 3d studio art, and art history. Kings work pulls on personal themes in his life such as vulnerability, gender, identity, and mental illness. He shares often stigmatized or underrepresented issues to create an open dialog with the viewer. His work is multi-disciplinary, including mediums such as, photography, printmaking, textile, oil pastel, and sculpture.
King’s artist Practice revolves around a candid discussion surrounding mental illness and identity, rooted in my personal journey being a queer individual as well as someone diagnosed with bipolar II disorder. He shares his personal experiences that he has had through his lifetime, that may resonate with others. His work is an honest but hopeful reflection of his experiences.
